Bachelor of Education (Elementary)

Objectives:

The program aims at preparing effective classroom teachers for secondary grades who:

  • have mastery over content
  • can use modern instructional strategies to the needs of the learner
  • make optimum use of technology in instruction
  • perform all tasks related to effective instruction

The goals will be attained through classroom teaching and learning, hands-on experiences

and field based experiences in the form of teaching practice /practicum and supervised internship.

Entry Requirements:

The entry requirements for B.ED. program;

  1. Bachelor Degree(minimum 2nd Division) with at least one school subject
  2. Physical fitness

Age Limit:

  1. For admission on the basis of bachelor degree 24 years on the last date of submission of application.
  2. In real hardship cases, the vice chancellor may grant relaxation for one year in age on the recommendation of Head of the concerned institution.
  3. No age limit for admission in the evening classes.

Assessment and Examination

The assessment and examination will be based on an external examination organized by the Controller of Examinations, University of Education. The transcript will reflect the scores of the Comprehensive Examination only, which will be issued by the Controller of Examinations, University of Education. The minimum attendance requirement to appear in University Examination will be 75% of the total class sessions.The completion of assignments /projects /activities by the student in each course would be compulsory. The appearance in University Exam will be subject to principal’s certification to this effect.

Teaching Practice

The duration of the teaching practice will be 4 weeks, which will be organized in the elementary level classes, in the 2nd half of the academic year, preferably in the moths of February/March each year. A supervisor will observe at least two full lessons per week of each of his supervises. an evaluation form will be filled in for each classroom observation.

The class teacher in the school will play the role of a co-supervisor. The co-supervisor will be provided orientation regarding the purpose of the Teaching Practice and his responsibilities as an advising teacher. The role of the co-supervisor will be required to remain present in the classroom for the whole time. The co-supervisor will write a daily report on the prescribed form regarding the strengths , weaknesses and progress of the student. These reports will be submitted to the concerned supervisors for consideration while assessing the trainee teachers.

The trainee teacher will prepare a lesson plan for each class meeting, which shall be b esigned b ythe supervisor and the co-supervisor at least one day in advance.

Internship

After the completion of the work , there will be 3-month internship for all the B.Ed students. The Heads of the institutions will prepare a list of the prospect schools where students will be completing their internship requirement. The list will be approved by the concerned head and a copy will be sent to the Controller of Examinations. The head teacher of the school providing internship facility will be contacted for written permission and briefed about the modalities involved. The school head will issue a certificate at the completion of the internship to the Head of the concerned institution and will provide a duplicate copy to the internee and a copy to the Controller of Examinations, University of Education, Lahore.

Class Work

In case of a course of 75 marks, there will be a minimum of 30 class meetings for each such course. The duration of each class meeting will be 1 hour.

* Marks in the Teaching Practice will be based on the continuous evaluation of the external examiner, who will be appointed by the Controller of Examinations, University of Education. The external examiner will observe at least two lessons for the award of marks. The distribution of the marks will be as following:
